| The RED DEER is also native to the UNITED
KINGDOM and the largest land mammal we have within GREAT BRITAIN.
- The biological structure for the RED DEER is as follows.
- The male Red deer is known as a STAG.
- The female Red deer is known as a HIND.
- The young Red deer are known as CALVES.
- The STAG stands about a metre and a half in height and can be upto
300lb in weight. Coat is dark reddish in coluor this giving the deer
their name.
- Again its only the male(STAG) that grows the antlers but these can
varie in size as to the ground they are living on.
- The Red hind will give birth again in the spring time this normaly
being to only 1 calve but possibly 2.
- As with most our deer the stag will cast his antlers yearly then re-grow
a new set. Again going through the velvet process.
